Smog is a mix of atmospheric air and a large amount of smoke, fumes and other impurities. Sulphur dioxide, heavy metals, benzopyrene and dioxin are just a few of the substances we breathe in with smog. A long exposure to these toxic substances may lead to the development of cancer, breathing problems and a much worse skin condition. Before finding out which cosmetics protect the skin from smog, look at the influence of smog on your skin.
How smog affects the skin?
The skin, which is exposed to smog, ages fast. To make things worse, smog triggers the overproduction of sebum, leading to pimples and acne breakouts. Smog contributes to the development of other skin conditions such as eczema, allergies, pigmentation spots.
Which cosmetics protect the skin from smog?
1. Cleansing
If the smog rate is above the acceptable norms, you should do an evening makeup removal earlier – after going back from school or work. Use mild cleansing oils which remove makeup products and impurities that settle deep in skin pores.
2. Protection
Next, apply an intensive, antioxidant-rich cosmetic, preferably – serum. Vitamin E, Ferulic acid and green tea are the best anti-pollution antioxidants. You can go for serum in your morning skin care routine, too. If you do, after applying the serum, mix your foundation or BB cream with a drop of the serum as well.
3. Moisturising
Reinforcing the hydro-lipid coat is another key stage in the anti-pollution skin care. It results in lower risk of irritations and an increased level of hydration in the epidermis. For this purpose, try intensively-rebuilding, ceramide-rich cosmetics which effectively protect the skin from external factors. Other skin-repairing, worth-choosing substances include Shea butter, vitamin B3, beta-glucans. You should use them in combination with hyaluronic acid which provides dehydrated and extremely dry skin with an in-depth revitalisation.
